1971 - 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, Elizabeth Middleton-Jones. Leaving this world far too soon at the age of 53 on June 26, 2025, Beth was a vibrant and loving person, who touched the lives of all who knew her.

As a dedicated elementary school teacher, she had the privilege of helping to shape the minds of young children and instil a love of learning in each of her students. Following her graduation from the University of Victoria, Beth started her professional journey in the UK before returning to Canada, working at Upper Canada College, Branksome Hall, and most recently at her alma mater, St. Michaels University School. She brought energy and creativity to each classroom, always going above and beyond to ensure that every child felt supported and valued. Her enthusiasm, passion, and kindness were truly inspiring, and her positive impact on students, colleagues, and the school communities will be felt for years to come.

Above all else, she was devoted to her family, with a love that knew no bounds. She poured her heart and soul into creating a warm and nurturing home for her husband, Justin, and two children, Ella and Cameron, whom she loved unconditionally. Her smile lit up the room, and her laughter was infectious. Beth had a way of making everyone feel loved and cherished, and her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.

Born in Brockville, Ontario to Keith and Teresa Middleton on November 30, 1971, she is survived by her loving husband Justin Jones, children Ella and Cameron, parents Keith and Teresa Middleton, older sister Anne (Adam) Middleton-Gerber, younger sister Christina Middleton, and a large extended family, including many relatives and friends who will dearly miss her. She is preceded in death by her brother, Andrew Middleton.

Despite facing a terrible and unrelenting disease, Beth approached each day with courage and grace, never losing her sense of humour or her ability to bring joy to those around her. We would like to thank the medical teams at the Royal Jubilee and UBC Medical Hospitals for their amazing support and assistance.

Though we mourn her passing, we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, surrounded by love and light. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and we will hold her memory close as we navigate this difficult time.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 2:00pm, with Shelagh MacKinnon as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Beth’s name to the Victoria Literacy Connection https://victorialiteracyconnection.ca.

  1. Dear Justin, Ella, Cameron and Family,

Hello from Toronto. I just received notice of Beth’s passing and I am in utter shock and sadness. Beth and I were teaching colleagues at Upper Canada College upon her return from the UK. In fact, we were hired at the same time in 2000. Beth was not only an exceptional teacher but also a wonderful friend to me in the 5 years that we taught together. What do I always remember about Beth? She always had a twinkle in her eye, a big beautiful smile, and a wickedly funny sense of humour. Gosh, we had some good times together. I last reconnected with Beth, about 15 years ago, while visiting my parents in Victoria. She picked me up at their house and acted as my tour guide showing me where she grew up and many sights. It was an amazing day catching up and being together again. It was like no time had passed. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss.

  2. I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Ms. Middleton-Jones. She was my teacher more than 15 years ago, and she was recently in my thoughts for all the right reasons.

  3. Our heartfelt condolences to Justin, Ella, Cameron and the Middleton family. We met Beth at St Patrick’s school where Kai and Cameron become fast friends in grade 3. It was always a pleasure to share time with Beth as the boys connected over the years. They later attended different schools and some time has passed since the last time we all connected. I recall Beth’s lovely smile accompanied by that giggle. Love that giggle! I will always remember how warm and authentic Beth was every time I saw her. Your family is tucked in a cozy pocket close to our hearts at this time.

  4. Sending my love to the whole family, especially Cameron and Ella. What wonderful people, she and Justin raised. I was saddened to not be able to attend Beth’s celebration. I would see her around school often and something that we always connected over was laughing. Beth was always so happy to share laughter. Her sense of humour, kind nature and fun personality attracted people to her. She will be deeply missed but not forgotten.

  5. Our family sends our deepest sympathy to Justin, Ella and Cameron and dear friends, the Middletons – Keith, Teresa, Annemarie and Christina – for the unimaginable loss of Beth.
May each of you treasure the many happy memories you have of her and hold them close.

Rick, Kathy, Karin. Kristy and Rick II
