With deep sadness and love we share that Selwyn has passed away. Sel was a Professor of Mathematics and later in life became an Anglican Minister. Born in New Zealand in 1935 and married to Joan in 1959. He studied in Los Angles, California, then received a posting at Queens University.
He and Joan restored a historic limestone house, filled it with restored furniture and surrounded it with beautiful gardens. Sue and Glen were his children. They have endless memories of Dad’s gentle ways, kindness and service to others.
Sel and Joan spent their retirement in Victoria BC and became involved in many local activities and supporting less fortunate community members beautiful gardens and plants always followed them.
Dads’ final days were spent with his grandson, Kai, to much delight. Dad also loved Nathan and Daniel, his older grandchildren and loved watching them grow into adulthood.
Sel had a wonderful humour, even in his difficult final days.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Diane and Dave Hieatt Our condolences to the family and deepest sympathy. We enjoyed connecting with Joan and Sel while they were in Kingston, having met them shortly before they relocated to Victoria. Kiwis ourselves, Dave and Joan had both been high school students at Avondale College, so lots of reminiscences!

Ian Ritchie Please accept my deep condolences on the loss of Sel Caradus. Although I never met him in person, it was uncanny how just about every place I ministered after coming back to Kingston in 2000 had been greatly influenced by his ministry. I followed him at St. Lawrence College Chaplaincy, while ministering at St. John’s, Portsmouth, then later I was at Christ Church, Tamworth. Time at St. James, Kingston, and occasional visits to St. Georges Cathedral always found his name cropping up from those who knew and loved him. May he rest in Peace and rise in Glory.
Rev. Dr. Ian Ritchie

Debby Fanning I remember Rev Sel so well from the time he spent at St. Luke’s in Kingston, ON. He and Joan were dear friends of my parents (Claude & Betty Langdon), both now deceased. Sel had a fantastic sense of humour, such a dear kind person. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure and honour of knowing him.
My thoughts and prayers are with all your family members at this time, remembering this kind and lovely man.

Phillip Rogers Glenn (and Sue), we were saddened to hear of your father’s death. We had actually just been talking about him in the days before because Brian Groos was here with us. He had the news, perhaps from you, while he was here. I have many good memories of the “Caradi” from their days in Kingston. Sel and I were, of course, fellow professors, but also fellow choir men. Please accept Eleanor’s and my condolences for your loss. Resquiescat in pace.

Norman J. Prelypchan I offer my deepest condolences to Sel’s Family on his passing.
He is now re-united with his dear wife Joan. There will be laughter.
They are both remembered for their kindness and humility.
Trudi and I met them at Services at the Cathedral. They were among the first to joyfully welcome us as a couple. From that time, we shared friendship and as well, many Breakfasts in either our homes or some new place neither of us had yet tried.
A role that Sel undertook as spiritual leader to the Community of residents at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital was especially notable. He was so well suited to the role. My Mother was especially touched by his willingness to reach out and be able to easily transcend cultural and denominational differences in his ministry there.
He was special.

Professor Caradus was such a gentle soul. I appreciated his kindness as I began my life journey in the secretarial pool in the Math Department at Queen’s. I hope you enjoy your memories?
