Elizabeth Helen Martin passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, in Victoria, BC, at the age of 80. Born on June 2, 1944, in Scotland, Elizabeth carried with her a warmth, wit, and love of music that enriched the lives of everyone she met.
She is survived by her loving children Heather (Alex) MacLennan, Allison Martin, and Richard Martin, and her adored grandchildren Duncan, Findlay, and Gabriel.
Music was central to Elizabeth’s life. She played the cello for many years, participating in quartets in Victoria and Grand Forks. She also loved to sing, and her smile could brighten a room. Her taste in music was broad — she delighted in ABBA, Elton John, and the great works of classical composers.
Elizabeth had a playful spirit, often quoting humorous lines that those who knew her will remember with a smile:
“I could take the top off an egg.”
“You canny throw your granny from the bus.”
Her kindness, musical heart, and sense of fun will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A private memorial will be held by the family at a later date to spread her ashes.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Isobel Crane Oh dear Liz , we met playing in the Glasgow orchestra when we were 16. My family loved you , you had a wonderful sense of humour. Then we met up again in Toronto and shared flats there and also in Edmonton. I loved Canada. Heather came to stay with my family in London and she was just like her lovely mum.
Thankyou Heather for letting me say a few words. Time passes and friends die but happy memories last a life time.
Lots love Isobel

Donna Washington Liz was always someone who brought energy to space and created so much laughter with her spirit. I consider myself lucky to have seen her before she passed in her usual light and humour at Heather and Alex home. Always thinking of the loved ones left behind xoxo

Louise Kelaher Liz. You were a classic. Right to the end you had everyone, hospital staff included, laughing at the absurdities of life.
There is no greater legacy in my opinion.
You are missed.

We first met Liz 35 years ago at a Scottish Country dancing class and quickly became firm friends. We so enjoyed her humour and wit. We were thrilled when she returned to Victoria but unfortunately only got together twice with her.
