With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Giuseppe who passed away peacefully at home on November 05, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Toritto, Italy on September 07, 1943.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 51 years, Rosa; his children Dominic (Elena), Catherine (Martin), and Sabrina (Josh); and his grandchildren Esmae, Simon and Jeremy. Predeceased by his parents Domenico and Caterina Loiacono, and is lovingly remembered by his siblings Angela, Camelia, and Nicola and his nieces and nephews.

He spent his childhood working in the family business and served as a sergeant in the Italian Army. In 1966 he immigrated to Oakville, Canada and eventually settled in Victoria where he met the love of his life, Rosa. Giuseppe was devoted to his family, instilling in his children the values of self-reliance, hard work, and perseverance. In recent years, he found immense joy in being a Nonno to his grandchildren.

Known to many as Joe, he was generous, loving, and full of life. With his charm and warm smile, he made everyone feel welcome. His door was always open, and if you stayed for dinner, he’d likely bring you to the cellar to share his homemade wine. He loved cruising, gardening, motorcycles, and reading, and could often be found at a coffee shop with a newspaper in hand, chatting about life, cars, and everything in between.

Giuseppe was blessed with a sharp mind and an entrepreneurial spirit. His work ethic was unmatched, and his genius was in his hands. As a builder, Giuseppe left his mark across Victoria, building homes with his unique finishing touch. Never afraid of a challenge, he pushed boundaries, building Canada’s skinniest house.

As President of the Victoria Italian Assistance Centre in the 1980s, he led efforts to secure the land for the Leonardo Da Vinci Centre from the provincial government and championed constitutional changes granting women full membership and voting rights.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Paul Kachan for his compassionate care throughout Giuseppe’s journey.

Rest peacefully. You were deeply loved and will be missed beyond measure. Your legacy lives on through your family and all those whose lives you touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC V8Y 1B4.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

To his beautiful family, this story of his life says so much about the man. Thanks for sharing. To Dominic and Lena, this has been a hardship for you both watching the man you love going through a horrible disease process. But now you must pick up the pieces of your lives and regroup. The generosity of your parents was bestowed on Samantha and I on several occasions. We love you all and will visit one day soon.

Each and everyday, we remember and appreciate Joe’s lasting legacy, as we are living in a home with his hand built genius all around us. From the circular staircases to the custom cabinetry, from the waterproof roof to the parquet floors – his expert carpentry, plumbing, electrical and gardening skills are a continuing testament to the care and easy attention to details that seemed to come so naturally from him. Mostly, though, we miss his smiles, his hugs and his humour.
Now, we see Joe in his beloved family members, and love them all the more…

We all will miss Joe’s presence. He was a great guy with a wonderful personality. He was completely devoted to his family, and they, to him. A great gardener , too! I will always remember Joe tending the flowering cacti at his front door, just a magnificent floral display, second to none.
And Rosa, who was always by Joe’s side, deserves a special place in heaven for her constant vigilance and undying support and love for her husband of 51 years. Condolences to the entire Loiacono family. May happy memories bring you peace.

Sending hearfelt condolencese to Rosa and family. Joes’s love of life and love of his family was evident in all he did. His smile was infectious and I always smile when remembering the dating advice he gave my daughter Jenny. He was a fabulous neighbour to my parents and I know they will miss him deeply. He helped out dad many times when it came to house projects and I do believe in a few attempts to keep the deer out of the yards! Rest easy Joe and hugs to you Rosa
