Dietrich Rodowski died peacefully on October 15, 2025, in Victoria. He was born in Berlin, Germany on January 22, 1938, to Edith and Alfred. Lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret. They were married in 1966.

Diet is predeceased by his sister Petra and his sisters-and brothers-in-law Keith, Sally, Roy and Bob. He is survived by his wife Marge, children Beverly, Tom (Brooke), and Melanie (Matt), his beloved grandsons Ken and Nate; and brother Manfred, as well as sisters- and brothers-in-law Kath, James Frank (Jodie), and Elizabeth.

Diet apprenticed as a baker in Berlin before coming to Victoria, Canada in 1957 at the age of 19. His steamer docked in Quebec where Dad decided to continue West and took the cross-country train ride to Vancouver. From there, officials directed him to Victoria—they needed bakers.

He continued as a baker until his retirement in 2002. He shared his baking with family and friends every Christmas with whipped shortbread, tea rings, Marzipan balls, gingerbread and more. He was often seen at festivities wearing his chicken hat.

Donations, if desired, may be made to the Salvation Army.

On January 10, 2026, we will be celebrating Dietrich at 2:00 pm at Church of the Advent Hall, 510 Mount View Ave, Colwood.
