It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond “Nub” Cripps.
Ray was born on December 24, 1949, in Tofino, British Columbia, and grew up in Powell River, BC. In 1968, Ray moved to Ucluelet, BC, where he spent close to 30 years building a life rooted in hard work, community, and family.
Ray devoted countless hours to coaching children, playing sports, and being a devoted father. His love of sports, music, and camaraderie—combined with his infectious laugh and outgoing personality—made him a familiar and cherished presence to many. Whether on the sidelines, in the community, or among friends, Ray had a way of bringing people together and making them feel welcome.
He was deeply involved in the Ucluelet community and took great pride in supporting young people through sports, mentorship, and encouragement. His energy, humor, and generosity of spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.As Ray’s life began to slow, he spent his final 18 months in long-term care. Much like the sun that rises every day, Ray’s personality continuedto shine, leaving residents, staff, and visitors holding a special place in their hearts for him.
Ray is survived by his three sons: Curtis (spouse Kaylee), Tyler (spouse Jisung), and Cory; and by his beloved grandchildren, Dyani and Jay.
As well as his sister Elizabeth, brother Robert, and many nieces and nephews.
Ray will be remembered for his love of sports, his dedication to his community, and the laughter he so freely shared. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Gerry Scott Remembering Ray Cripps
We arrived in Ucluelet in 1973 and lived in the row of trailers behind Ray in Whispering Pines Trailer Court. Saturday mornings were spent playing street hockey in his driveway. I was the goalie, Ray was the goal scorer. We had a small trophy we passed back and forth — I think it was called Showdown in the NHL, but for us it was Showdown in Whispering Pines Trailer Court.
In my teens, Ray was already larger than life. What always stood out was that he always had time for us younger guys. Whether it was street hockey, floor hockey, or roller hockey, Ray helped organize games and leagues in rec halls and gyms up and down the West Coast. It wasn’t about trophies — it was about getting kids together, playing hard, and having fun.
Baseball was another big part of those years. Ray was involved with the Army & Navy kids baseball program, and I was playing for the Lions. Once again, we found ourselves battling back and forth — different teams, same competitive spirit.
Later on, Ray was a fixture at the Army & Navy. He enjoyed his late nights there, loved his pops, and was always telling stories. Ray had a way of drawing people in — a real character, and someone you couldn’t help but admire.
I worked briefly with Ray at the dryland sort before I made my way to Vancouver. I didn’t see him much after that, but I always asked about him.
My friend, you were a character and a lot of fun to be around.
Rest in peace. Enjoy the journey.
My condolences to Ray’s family

With a tremendous amount of sadness I say goodbye. Curtis, Tyler and Cory I’m truly sorry. Your Pop was a great man and will be missed!
