Mary Jane Kennedy passed away peacefully at the age of 102 on March 26, 2026, at the Sunrise Senior Living facility in Victoria, BC. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband of 72 years, James Patrick Campbell (Jim) Kennedy; her sons Jim and John; her parents Robert Ross and Valentine; her sister Yvonne Pettigrew (and husband Russ); her brother John West (and wife Joan); and her brother, Robert West.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter Martha (Steve Ramonas); daughter-in-law Jennifer Kennedy (Jim, deceased); her brother Raymond West (Anne); her sister-in-law- Dianne West (Robert, deceased); nephew Randy West (Juliann); and very special friends Judy and Larry Martell, and Lynne Newell.
Mary grew up in Brandon, Manitoba. She married Jim on his return from Europe after he served in England and Gibraltar in WWII. They settled in Hudson, Quebec, where they raised their family. It was in Hudson where Mary learned to play and enjoy golf. With her family, she became part of the Hudson Community while sailing on Lake of Two Mountains from Hudson Yacht Club, skiing in the Laurentians and northern New England states, and golfing at Whitlock Country Club. As members of the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Hudson, Mary and her family shared many wonderful times with fellow parishioners.
In 1971, the family moved to Victoria, BC, where Mary continued to enjoy playing golf into her 80’s at the Victoria Golf Club. Mary was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Oak Bay, Victoria, and cherished her visits to that church and community over the years. She will be remembered as a loving, caring wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching football, and discussing world events. Thank you Sunrise Senior Living for their care, understanding and compassion.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick Parish, 2060 Haultain Street, Victoria, BC on Wednesday, April 8th at 12:10 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local food bank.

Sandy Stewart I am sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. She and Jim were good friends of my parents when they all resided at Parkwood Place. Mary always had a smile and a kind thing to say. I know she will be dearly missed by family and friends alike.

Barbara Bourbonnais Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I have such wonderful memories of visiting my Auntie Mary Jane and Uncle Jim, both in Hudson and much later in Victoria. Their hospitality was wonderful but mostly, I remember the laughter. Mary Jane was such a lovely person! The last time we spoke, a few days after she turned 102, she was her usual funny, talkative self. Every time we spoke, she told me how much I reminded her of her mother… a memory I will always cherish! I do smile thinking of the (very loud) family reunion in Heaven. And yes, Martha, I’m sure she will want to have it catered! <3

Mary and Jim were great friends of my parents through their connection to St Patrick’s. Mary was also an avid golfer at VGC where my Dad was a member. In the past few years, my wife and I got to know Mary much better. She was a true inspiration on many levels; her grace, intelligence, sense of humour, and deep spirituality, among her many qualities. We will miss her and we send our condolences to the family but no doubt the old Irish blessing applies in her case; “She will be in heaven, a half hour before the devil knows she’s dead” Love, Tim and Mary
