Passed away peacefully at home on March 31, 2026. He was born on February 10, 1961, in Victoria, BC. Survived by his wife Sheree and son Brandon (Grace). Sisters Cathryn (Chris), Nancy (Kelly), brother Brian and sister-in-law Norene. Nephews and nieces Daniel, Rachelle, Brock, Tyler and Kyla. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the staff at the Victoria Cancer Agency, Community Care Nurses and the Palliative Response Team for their kindness and professionalism.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 9th, 2026, at 2:00 pm in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria BC V8Y 1B4.

Diana Thornton My condolences to all of the Bates family. I knew Murray since we went to Doncaster elementary school in the 70’s. In my eyes he was the gentle giant, such a nice guy. I am so sad to just learn of his passing, and so sad for family and friends.

Greg O’Connor As a teacher I knew Murray when he was a student at Doncaster School in the 70s.As he grew up I would see him around town and we would always have a pleasant and interesting conversation.His siblings and parents were great contributors to Doncaster School and I have fond memories of them all.Murray was a nice guy.My condolences to his family.

Sheree, I just heard about Murray’s passing yesterday. I am so saddened to hear this news for Murray’s family and especially for you and Brandon.
