Born in Stewiacke N.S., Alberta was the daughter of Charles and Josephine Jeffers, sister of Ivan (all deceased). The family moved to Elderbank in 1936 where she went to school and then went to business college. For several years, she worked at various companies in Halifax, Toronto and Vancouver, but always maintained close ties to her Nova Scotia family- 3 nieces, a nephew, 4 great nieces and 2 grand nephews.

While in Vancouver in her mid thirties her life changed dramatically when she met Noel, a father with six children. They fell in love, married and moved to Prince Rupert. Together they ran a moving and storage company but managed to find time to pursue Alberta’s love of travel, both at home and abroad. They were also very active in the boating community, exploring the waters outside of Prince Rupert.

In 2001 Alberta and Noel moved to Saanichton, BC. In 2006 Noel died and Alberta stayed on the island moving into Sidney in 2018. While she missed her husband, she made new friends, turned Noel’s writings into a book and continued travelling.

Throughout her life, Alberta pursued many interests. She was an excellent photographer and took up a number of different crafts. She had a great love of the natural world, which she explored on her travels, and on her much-valued daily walks. She had a discerning eye able to notice and appreciate tiny/unusual creatures, plants, stones, shells. Alberta was a quiet woman, but she was not shy or reserved. She enjoyed meeting new people, gatherings with family and friends. She was usually up for any adventure that came along but was comfortable with her own company.

Alberta lived a long and good life, healthy and happy. She was a loved and valued member of a very large extended family which included children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She will be greatly missed by all of us, and we will celebrate her for the wonderful woman that she was and the central role she played in our lives.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Alberta and Noel were my surrogate grandparents. Most of my childhood,on Land and Sea, included these two of the most wonderful people on Earth. My parents were lifelong friends with The Woodworths and my father co-owned the company with Noel where Alberta also worked.
Alberta’s smile and laughter cheered every room she was present. My deepest condolences. Sending love.

Alberta was a good friend of my Mom’s, but until now I didn’t realize they had the same middle name! She and my Mom both had husbands in extended care at Saanich Peninsula Hospital. They bonded immediately and were a huge comfort and support for each other during the often heartbreaking times. Mom and Alberta continued their friendship after Noel passed away and until Mom passed away in 2015. I used to tell them they had a more active social life than I did. I had many lovely visits and chats with Alberta. She had a wonderful life which she knew and appreciated. So many interesting stories. Lately we would run into each other in Sidney and have nice chats. She was such a smart, intelligent, lovely and compassionate woman. I feel privileged to have known her.
    I’m sorry for your loss.

I first met Alberta in 2014 on a trip to Machu Picchu. We shared a love of nature and quickly became close friends.

She approached the world with curiosity and a sense of wonder, and was always up for an adventure at the drop of a hat.

She is still an inspiration to me, as even in later years, she kept up her daily walks and even wore the tires out on her walker.

My sincere condolences to family and friends, all of us who loved her.

To all who will miss her I share your sadness. Alberta was one of a kind to embrace the Woodworths with such openness.

I for one have fond memories of visits to Prince Rupert and getting out on the boat.
