On May 5, 2026, Carolyn Vogt passed peacefully in the Victoria General Hospital, surrounded by her husband and children. She was born Olive Carolyn Hildur Peterson on November 10, 1944 in Minnedosa MB to Edwin and Amy (Walstrom) Peterson. Growing up on the family farm at Hilltop, near Erickson MB, she attended a one-room elementary school before completing high school in Erickson.
She trained as a nurse in Winnipeg’s Misericordia Hospital, receiving her RN in 1965. She later earned both her BN and MN in nursing from the University of Manitoba. She taught nursing at Children’s and Grace Hospitals, later becoming the Director of the Grace School. She concluded her career as an Instructor in the University of Manitoba Nursing faculty, ending an exceptional career in nursing education.
Carolyn was first married in 1970 to Wayne Vogt, and their son Daniel was born in 1977. After Wayne’s passing in 1990, she reconnected with Glenn Peckover, a friend from her university days, and they married in 1996, living in Winnipeg. They retired in 2004, and travelled to Europe several times. In 2015 they moved to Victoria BC, delighting in their grandchildren as they grew up, savouring Victoria’s climate, and exploring BC.
Carolyn was much loved and will be deeply missed by husband Glenn; his son Andrew (Sia) and their twins Ariana and Owen; his daughter Jennifer (Jordan) Bennett; and her son Dan (Laura), her daughter Emily and her son Edwin (who made Carolyn a great-grandma!). She is also lovingly remembered by sisters LaVerne Uhl and Elenor LeBeau, brother Clarence Peterson and their families.
Carolyn was a wonderful and beautiful woman of grace, compassion and intelligence. She was an exceptional cook and baker, a meticulous homemaker, and a most gracious hostess. Her dinner table was a place of laughter and love. You could always count on her infectious smile to brighten your day. Her sudden passing due to a brain hemorrhage leaves a profound void in many lives.
There will be two memorial services – celebrations of Carolyn’s life:
The first will be in Victoria, Monday June 8, at 10am PDT. James Bay United Church, 511 Michigan Street.
The service will be live-streamed at:

It will start at about 9:45 am and be available to view after the service.

All are welcome at both services, and the family appreciates all the caring and respect that is being shown for Carolyn and her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Donna Kirk Carolyn was a very close friend. We met in Misericoria Hospital Nursing School in Winnipeg. We had good times and supported each other even when times were tough. We were two girls from farm country and we hit it off. Carolyn later met my cousin Glenn Peckover and they became very close. Carolyn’s passing is very sad.

Dear Glenn,
How blessed you were to reconnect with Carolyn, and have so many years together. She was such a strong level person with a nurturing nature evidenced in her daily connections with people. She certainly made a difference in my life, and I also saw her quiet influence in our strata complex these last 10 years. We will all miss her here ! Janet
