Bev passed comfortably at home on April 24th on her own terms with loved ones by her side. She leaves behind her husband Mark Hallam and beloved stepchildren Maery (Rodrigo), Gordon & Luna (Aidan Harrison) and precious 3-year-old granddaughter Gemma Harrison.

Bev, born January 16th, 1952, grew up in Burnaby. Daughter of Allen (DVM) and Thelma Perry and sister to Dennis (Susan Drury), Barbara (Peter Munro), Diana (Dennis Chalmers), Lesley Pughe, and Trenna (Mark Clarke). The family had interesting years living on a hobby farm on Gilpin St filled with various farm and unusual animals (skunk, monkeys etc,). Working weekends at her father’s Kingcrest Animal Hospital was a must. The family had many happy vacations on Hornby Island. High school years were spent living on Deer Lake.

Years after Allen’s passing the family grew again with the marriage of Thelma to Murray Edworthy. Bev maintained close and loving contact with her step siblings Kathy (Don Wylie), John (Heather McNaughton), Allan (Cheryl) and Meg (Tom Wacker).

Through her marriage to Mark, Bev became sister-in-law to Garth and Diane Hallam; Bill and Valerie Hallam; Patricia and Micheal Allabarton; Fern and Dave Maier. This added 8 additional precious nieces and nephews to the pack.

Bev and Mark married in their 50s, so Bev had many single years to love and participate in the lives of her 26 nieces and nephews, (and of many of her friends’ children), some who shared her accommodation while attending UVic.

Bev worked in child protection, MCFD for over 30 years working primarily in Oliver, Surrey and Victoria with short term assignments across the island, in Terrace, Quesnel, Prince George etc. She was very committed to her work.

Becoming a stepmother led to some of Bev’s happiest yet most demanding experiences. The teen years were a challenge for all but included happy family adventures in Mexico and Hawaii, surfing in Tofino and travels to the interior of BC and Alberta. Everyone survived and the family has been a cohesive unit in adult life.

Bev loved to travel in her single years either alone or with various friends and later with Mark and her Dragon Boat team. She lived an interesting and happy life.

Bev has many friends who have loved and supported her over the past 3 years. Though not living in Victoria, many siblings and friends have traveled to visit, love, laugh, care for and support her. Bev and Mark and forever grateful.

Mark and Bev cannot express their appreciation enough to all three South Island hospitals, lab and imaging departments and to BC Cancer Clinic staff on all levels for their kindness, expertise and patience. The chemo rooms overflow with kindness, knowledge and teamwork like no other. Special thanks to Dr. Poonja and Dr. Roh.

In lieu of flowers please donate in Bev’s name to your local Hospital Foundation or to the BC Cancer Foundation.

Bev’s life has been well celebrated over the past 3 years. There will be no formal celebration, but she will be well toasted at Perry, Hallam and Edworthy family events over the coming year.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.
