We are saddened to announce the passing of Geraldine Martha Kerrin. Born in Montreal to Marc and Elizabeth Guerin, Gerry’s greatest passion was singing. Standing just 5’ 2” tall, her diminutive stature belied an outsized gift: a sweet, soprano voice boasting both power and range.

In 1953, Gerry married “the boy next door,” Hugh Kerrin. Following Hugh’s specialty training in Detroit, and more than a decade as a sought-after internist in Montreal, the family relocated to Vancouver in the wake of the 1970 FLQ Crisis. While Hugh rebuilt his medical practice, Gerry created a stable, vibrant home for their five children. She was a dedicated volunteer at her children’s schools and on hospital committees, yet always found time to share her love for cooking, literature, and the arts. Her passion for music never waned; often, a simple word or phrase would inspire her to burst into song.

Gerry is survived by her children: Martha Mackenzie (Will), Peter (Jessica), Jeffrey (Niki), Laurie Carlyle (Fraser), and Pamela Bertuzzi (Anthony); nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her five sisters and her brother.

The family thanks Dr. Rosenberg and his staff at HomeTeam Medical, the staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital (5 South), Carlton House, and her caregiver, Princess Gancena.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
