Born Dec. 20, 1937, Santos passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 88, on May 12, 2026. The son of Nicholas and Leoncia Follero, he grew up in the barangay (village) of Palsong, Bula, in the Bicol Region of the Philippines. In 1970, Santos married the love of his life, Aida Mediante Follero with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. They immigrated to Kenora, Ontario in 1973, raising their daughters Cheryl and Florence. A skilled carpenter and mechanic, Santos worked for 20 years as a Lead Furnace Operator for Cominco in Trail BC, retiring out in 1998. Santos is survived by Aida, Cheryl and Tom, step-grandchildren Justin and Danielle, Flo and Todd, and the apples of his eye, grandchildren Kimberly and William.
Aida was the one known for planning and organizing events wherever they lived, but Santos was the quiet force behind the scenes, setting up tables, chairs and decorations, and making sure that anyone who needed it had a safe ride. A man of few words, Santos worked hard to make sure that everyone who came to his door had a roof overhead and food on the table. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation in Santos’ memory to your local Food Bank.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Santos at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 4040 Nelthorpe Street, Victoria, BC, on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026 at 11:00 am. A lunch reception will follow and all are welcome to attend and celebrate Santos’ life and legacy.
