Susan MacTavish (nee Hausberg) died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on May 19, 2026, in Victoria, BC. She was born on June 5, 1964, in Vancouver, BC.
Sue is survived by her husband Kevin, her son Quinn (Carolyn), her brother Scott (Susan) Hausberg, sister-in-law Sherry (Kenny) Malinoski and mother-in-law Anna MacTavish. She will be missed by many more family, friends, and community members.
She is predeceased by her first husband Darren Howard, her sister-in-law Karen, her parents John and Patricia Hausberg, and Father-in-law Ian MacTavish.
Sue spent her childhood in Steveston, BC before the family moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1976. She relocated to Victoria, BC in 1989 where she met her husband, Kevin. The two married in 1994 and welcomed their son Quinn in 1996.
Sue balanced new parenthood while earning her degree in Child and Youth Care at the University of Victoria. Sue found great fulfillment in her career supporting children and families, most notably with the Greater Victoria School District and Quadra Village Community Centre. She was also involved in many charitable and volunteering endeavours, such as Scouts Canada, Coats for Kids, PAC, SPCA, and many more, but her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family and friends, especially in her amazing garden! Sue also loved to travel, and enjoyed trips to Scotland, England, Hawaii, California, and all-over beautiful British Columbia and the rest of Canada.
Her family wishes to give profound thanks to the incredible staff and volunteers with BC Cancer Agency, Royal Jubilee Hospital, and the Victoria Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations to Victoria Hospice and BC Cancer Agency are welcome in Sue’s memory.

Kevin, Quinn and family, my deepest condolences on this tremendous loss. Sue never back down to any challenges, even as she fought, for so many years, against this battle. She showed up, day in and day, out with a determination that will never be beat.
Sue, you taught me so much as we crossed paths on our shifts at the Kiwanis Emergency Shelter. You were so dedicated to all the youth
yet also shared something extra for the youth that needed “more”. That’s how you continued your journey in helping both children and families.
You loved bringing Hersey (and the kids loved him) to the school where you worked when he got licensed and what calm he brought to all those he crossed paths with. As I sit her in my crafty room with one of my favourite pictures of us, I remember with great fondness, ALL the times we spent together creating. How you loved documenting stories of Quinn as he grew up. What an amazing job you did! I miss you beyond belief!! I’ll see you when it’s time for me to “take the bus”, as we shared on our last days together. Love you, miss you. May you be at peace.
