It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Betty Dawson, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother on April 24, 2026 in Victoria, BC at the age of 98 with family members by her side.
Betty was born in Toronto, Ontario on March 27, 1928. She spent her early childhood in England before being evacuated to Canada during the war. When the war ended, Betty returned to England. In 1946 she met her future husband Vic (Victor Edward Dawson) on a train. They married in 1950, and had two sons – Trevor and Clive, before immigrating to Quebec Canada in 1957, where daughter Sharon was later born. The family relocated to Victoria, BC in 1966.
Betty is predeceased by her husband Victor and son Trevor. She is survived by her children Clive (Elaine) and Sharon (Ian); her grandchildren Adrian (Wendy), Robyn, Jeremy (Venus), Jamie, Jesse (Antheia), Amy (Nathan), Naomi (Myles), Jonah (Olivia), Bethany, Joel and Josiah; and 6 great-grandchildren Hunter, Brennan, Benjamin, Reid, Levi and Emily.
Betty worked in various roles over the years as a stenographer, bookkeeper and latterly as office manager of Coast Claims Insurance Services. She also volunteered in many capacities, giving back to her community.
Betty was a very proud matriarch – her family brought her much joy, and she was a wonderful mentor to them. She supported and revelled in their achievements. We miss her dearly and hold her forever in our thoughts.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful VIHA staff and Staff at Selkirk who looked after Betty so well the past few years.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Victoria Hospitals Foundation. A celebration of life service and reception will be held at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul’s Anglican Church – 1379 Esquimalt Rd, on Saturday June 13th at 2pm.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
