Audrey passed away very peacefully on June 1, 2026, holding her son’s hands.
She is remembered for the great kindness, warmth, and unconditional love she shared with her family, friends, and many others she was privileged to meet along her life’s journey.
Audrey lived a life of compassion, generosity, and quiet strength, mixed with a wry sense of humour. She touched many lives through her caring nature, and unwavering, principled support of those around her. Her presence was a comfort and joy, and her memory will continue to inspire those of us who knew her.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, Peris E. and Marietta Helen Atkinson, her siblings June Doreen Barker (and her spouse Bill) and John William (Bill) Atkinson (and his spouse Sheila), Audrey’s spouses Paul, Morris and Ernest, sister-in-law Sheila Browne, nephew Perry James Browne, and nephew-in-law Donald Kenneth Kelly.
Audrey leaves behind cherished family members and dear friends who hold her in their hearts. Her legacy lives on in the relationships she nurtured, the values she shared, and the countless memories she created with those she leaves behind, including her sister Pat, her son Barry, her daughter-in-law Tricia and her family, her most beloved grandchildren Kristen and Karsten, her nieces Colleen, Velvet and Corri and their families, her friend of 91 years Sybil, and her friend of the last several years Kari.
It was Audrey’s wish to be buried beside her first husband Paul Freitag, who died in 1954, less than one year after they were married. A Celebration of Audrey’s Life for family and friends will be held closer to what would have been her 98th birthday.
Those who wish to remember Audrey and honour her memory, you can do so by carrying forward the kindness she so naturally gave to others. You may also consider donating to a charity of your own choice to help those, whether human or otherwise, who are less fortunate.
Although Audrey is no longer with us, she did not want us to mourn her, but instead to remember her and smile for the good times we shared. Thank you, Audrey!
