Alan Tyers Bevan passed on 13 June 2026 in Victoria, BC, at the age of 97. After graduating from the Manchester School of Art, he emigrated to Canada in 1957 and spent years teaching art in Toronto at Runnymede and Weston Collegiates. On retirement, he first moved to Salt Spring Island, and then to Victoria for his last 30 years. He was a man of many interests with an inquiring, questioning mind and a gifted artistic hand. When he wasn’t tending his productive vegetable garden, he loved to walk and cycle around the city where he made many acquaintances, as he was always ready for conversation. He made frequent travels to Europe (UK, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal) and Palm Springs. In his final years, he had a nearby friend, Rick Binns, with whom he sat talking each morning in the gazebo, a great gift at the end of his life. He leaves his wife Camilla, children Sal, George, Sarah, of whose achievements he was very proud, and grandchildren Natalie, Isabelle, and Kamila. Although he dealt with ill-health in the last 10 years of his life, he adapted and never complained. His dominant presence leaves a hole in our lives. May he rest in peace.
