It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard William Kenneth Johnson (“Rick”), who died peacefully on July 2, 2026, in Victoria, BC, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rick was born on September 8, 1948, in Estevan, Saskatchewan.

Rick is survived by his loving wife Sherrilyn, and his daughter Kerrie (Kevin). He was predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Kathleen; his brothers, Bernie and Dave; and his sister, Lois. Rick will be deeply missed by his extended family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

Rick moved from Estevan to Victoria as a young boy. Once in school, Rick thrived as a student and developed a passion for gymnastics at the YMCA. He later went on to build a long and rewarding career in plumbing, retiring in 2015.

Above all, Rick’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to Sherrilyn and a proud, loving father to Kerrie, treasuring every moment they spent together. Whether at home playing cards or doing jigsaw puzzles, or traveling on an adventurous cruise, the time they shared and the memories they created were what mattered most to him.

A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held for close family and friends in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC, on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.

Thinking of our family in Victoria today, and wishing we could be with them at this very sad time. Rick will always be remembered for his enthusiasm for life, his remarkable gymnastic accomplishments, his happy and generous nature, and also for surviving being teased as “Uncle Rick” when he did flips and handstands down the corridors (and sometimes even the stairs) of S.J. Willis Junior High in the early 1960’s. It was really fun to have such an energetic, mischievous and handsome young uncle, who was always well liked, attracted loyal friends, was always easygoing and happy, yet had the remarkable skills to represent his school, city and country proudly. Our deepest sympathies to Sherrilyn, Kerrie and family, and Rick’s many friends, and may you rest in peace, Rick – until we meet again! xxx
