It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Edna Maria Ribeiro on July 7, 2026.

Born in Vila Franca, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, Edna was the beloved daughter of Carolina Ventura and Jose Furtado. She lived a life filled with love, kindness, and devotion to her family and friends.

Edna was a devoted wife to Jaime da Costa Ribeiro for 61 years, predeceased in 2017. Together they built a loving home and created countless cherished memories. She was a proud and loving mother to Lurdes (Kenneth), Teresa (David), Cidalia, Jaime and Jennifer (Raymond), and a treasured Vavo to 16 grandchildren and Veevee to 7 great grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, strength, sense of humor, kindness and faith. Whether she was cleaning, cooking, baking or hemming endless amounts of clothes, she touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to RJH hospital staff and especially the angels working at Victoria hospice for their compassionate care and support.
A funeral mass will be held on July 16 at 11am at Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Following a procession to Royal Oak Burial Park and then a gathering in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate her remarkable life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BC Cancer, Canadian Red Cross, or Victoria Hospice.

Though she is no longer with us, her love, wisdom, and fiery spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Tia Edna was part of my whole life growing up with sharing many memorable family get together memories with her loving hospitality, expressive smile and uplifting laughter. She set a great example of loving mother, wife and friend to all especially in the Portuguese community. Mom, who passed away recently as well, would enjoy many regular phone conversations with Tia Edna reminiscing of both of their incredible past memories and sharing stories of their kids. Lynn had the opportunity over the last 15 years to be welcomed by Tia Edna to the extended family and would always look forward to seeing each other. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten by us all around, especially by her loving children.
She goes on to spend the rest of her after life in heaven with her loving husband, that she missed so much.
Blessings & condolences to all her children and much love from Peter & Lynn

Tia Edna. What can I say about such a wonderful woman. Many of my fondest memories of her and her husband (I don’t know how to spell Whut we called him properly) at the many festivals at the church and hearing both of their laughs from the other side of the banquet hall above all the noise of everything happening! I remember talking to her and her having such uplifting and spirited conversations that in my young age I brushed off and went to the next thing that I looked at. Then in my adult age realized that much like my Avô, had lasting meaning and either a lesson to take, joke to be had or a story to tell that stayed with you long after it was said.

I will always remember her for her love and the joy she gave to everyone and she will always be forever remembered in our family

……. and yes I agree with my mom, I will still miss her baking/cooking. Especially her custard tarts
