Tyson Ross Skinner

It is with profound sadness and heartbreak that we announce the passing of Tyson Ross Skinner on July 2^nd , 2026, at the age of 22, while on a trip to the Okanagan with friends.

Tyson combined a sharp mind, easy confidence, kindness and humour in a way that made everyone around him feel comfortable and welcome. He had an infectious smile, a razor-sharp wit, and an effortless way of making people feel like they belonged. Whether you had known him for years or had just met him, Tyson had a gift for connecting with others. There simply were no bad days with Tyson.

Tyson moved effortlessly among everyone. He was as much at home with athletes as academics, with children as adults, and with lifelong friends as those he had only recently met. He had a remarkable ability to put people at ease while encouraging them to laugh a little louder, live a little bolder, and never take themselves too seriously. His warmth, authenticity, unmistakable swagger, and irrepressible spirit drew people to him, and his friendships were genuine, loyal, and lasting.

Sports shaped much of Tyson’s life, and he excelled at hockey, baseball, and golf. He proudly wore the jerseys of the Victoria Ice Hawks, Admirals, and Mariners, and through the Lambrick Park Baseball Academy he developed not only as an athlete but as the kind of teammate every coach hopes to have. He led quietly by example, earning the respect of teammates and coaches through his humility, work ethic, and character.

Golf became a lifelong passion. Whether working at Uplands Golf Club or spending time on the course with family and friends, Tyson felt most at home around the game he loved. He cherished the friendships it created, the challenge it offered, and the many memories made along the way. Some of his happiest moments were spent sharing laughs and good company on the fairways. The lessons he learned through sport – discipline, perseverance, loyalty, and respect – remained with him throughout his life.

After graduating from Lambrick Park, Tyson was pursuing a Business degree at the University of Victoria while combining his passion for golf with his work at Uplands Golf Club. Whether in the classroom, at work, on the golf course, or among friends, he approached life with curiosity, enthusiasm, and quiet confidence. He was building an exciting future grounded in the same character, kindness, and authenticity that had always defined him.

More than anything, Tyson cherished the people in his life. He was a devoted son, a protective brother, a treasured grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. His greatest legacy will not be measured by accomplishments, but by the countless lives he touched and the laughter, confidence, and kindness he left with those fortunate enough to know him.

Tyson is lovingly remembered by his mother, Julie; his father, Dean, and Sarah; his sister, Morgan; his grandparents, Karen and Peter Kvietinskas, Trevor and Gloria Sutton, Keith and Anita Skinner, and Judy and Gary McDevitt; his aunts and uncles, Jodie and Gary Green, Nicole and Blair Peacock, and Curtis and Maria Skinner; his cousins, Elise and Ryan Green, Ella and Oliver Peacock, and Natalie and Elizabeth Skinner; and the many close friends who became an extension of his family.

Although his life was far too short, Tyson’s impact was immeasurable. He leaves behind a community that is heartbroken by his loss, but forever grateful to have shared in his life. His smile, humour, generosity of spirit, and fearless approach to life will continue to inspire everyone fortunate enough to have known him.

Family and friends are warmly invited to gather as we celebrate Tyson’s remarkable life, share memories, and honour the lasting impact he had on all who knew and loved him. Attire will be Tyson-esque: casual, comfortable, golf shirts, jerseys, shorts, etc. Don’t overthink it -Tyson wouldn’t.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tyson Skinner Memorial Fund through the Victoria Foundation in support of students in the Lambrick Park Baseball Academy.
