Scott passed away bravely and peacefully on July 29th, 2026, in Victoria, BC. He was born on February 27th, 1943, in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Predeceased by his father, Flight Lieutenant (RCAF 416 Squadron) Walter Norman Douglas (1921-1945), his mother Ruth (White) Douglas (1913-2005), and many other relatives in BC and Ontario. Scott is survived by his loving and devoted wife Veronica, his daughter Rebecca (Keith) Halper, and son Luke. Grandchildren Max and Lucy. Also survived by other relatives in Ontario and BC.
Scott was a passionate and professional actor for over 60 years in theatre and film. He was an original founding member of the ACT in San Francisco. His extensive career brought him to many cities all over North America, and abroad.
While filming Night Heat in Toronto, he met his wife, Veronica. They married in 1990 and moved to Salt Spring Island, BC where they built their dream home, and raised their children. Scott was actively involved in the community and took great pleasure acting and directing numerous plays. He had great passion for Shakespeare, Samuel Beckett, and Dylan Thomas. Nothing pleased Scott more than the theatre. He immersed himself in character roles and was a true actor in every sense of the word. He performed many times at ArtSpring, The Belfry, The MacPherson and Blue Bridge theatres in BC. He also performed in Stratford, and numerous other theatres across Canada.
In 2015 Scott and Veronica moved to Victoria, and they immersed themselves in the city and the Vic West community. Scott rediscovered his passion for writing and wrote a memoir, Leaf in the Wind as a legacy for his children and grandchildren. Scott was a grounded and humble man with a huge heart. He lived by the golden rule and greeted everyone with a smile and a laugh. He loved to hear people’s stories. He put others before himself and lived each day to the fullest with no regrets.
The family is grateful to BC Cancer, especially to his oncologist Dr. Blachet-St. Pierre, the Palliative care team at RJH, Dr. Levendall, and the wonderful Dr. David Woodley.
If you wish to honour Scott, he asked that you please donate blood through The Canadian Red Cross, and to also support local theatre.

I am thinking of you in this time of sadness. Scott will be in your hearts forever.
I have very fond memories of Scott , and your family while you were on Salt Spring.
Scott was involved in the school events and field trips that Rosalie and I went on.
Rosalie loved going to your house and Scott always welcomed her warmly.
Take care
Scott was our neighbour for many years on Salt Spring Island, and we were very saddened to hear of his passing.
He was a gentleman and a scholar.
Heartfelt condolences to Veronica and family.
Dear Veronica and family. I’m so sorry to read about Scott’s passing.
Dear Veronica
My deepest sympathy to you on the loss of your beloved Scott
I admired his craft and the man.
I am Cameron Douglas and a distant relative of Scott’s here in Toronto – many years ago I brought my then five year old son to meet Scott at a promotional event. Through my Mother I used to hear wonderful things about Scott and his rising acting career. So sorry for your loss Veronica, Scott was a very talented actor and I’m sure a loving husband. – Cameron
My condolences on the loss of your lifemate and my friend and mentor of 40 years. I am so glad we got to see you both in June. We send out love.
Dear Veronica, our heartfelt condolences to you and family on the loss of your soulmate, Scott!
Hello Veronica,
I used to look after Ruth,,at ECU. Scott had us all in stitches, when he came to take her out. “oh mom, you’re all tarted up”
We all shared a big laugh.
Never knew I liked Shakespeare till , I saw Scott, on stage. So much talent. Sorry for your loss.
Dear Veronica, and family – I was so sorry to read of Scott’s passing. It was such a pleasure to see him recently on Salt Spring, in a staged reading with Sue Newman and Chris Humphreys. As always, he brought humour and humanity to his role… I’m also remembering the role he played at the Belfry Theatre, about an aging soul who breaks through the rough barriers that some older men face – he will be sorely missed by us all.
I am so sorry to have heard about Scott passing, my heart breaks for all of you.
Veronica, I know how difficult it is to lose a spouse and nothing I can say will make it better, but know that I am thinking of you. If you ever need to talk or just want someone to sit with you and listen I will be there for you. Take care my friend.
