Eunice Margaret (Peggy) Jeffery (nee McIntosh) passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC on August 12, 2026 at the age of 98. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Fred Jeffery. Remembering her with love are her children Bruce (Donna), Donna (Rudy) and Barry (Rosalind), grandchildren Blaine (Sherry), Tyler (Moraa), Jeremy (Stephanie), Alexander (Ambrosia), and Jane (Tom), and great-grandchildren Ryland, Reid, Jackson, Jordan, Layla, Andee and Elle. Peggy is predeceased by her brothers Walt (Gloria), Bruce (Iola), Jack (Mickey) and sisters Muriel (Tom) and Jean (Bill).
The fifth of six children, Peggy was born in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan to Walter and Ethel McIntosh. Growing up on a farm instilled core values of hard work and strong family ties. Following high school, Peggy had the opportunity to attend teachers training at Normal School in Moose Jaw, SK. She always said she loved Grades 3 and 4 because the children were more independent, ready to learn, and eager to develop their reading skills. One of her early school postings took her to Eston, SK where she met the love of her life, Fred (Frederick Roy). They married in August 1950 and lived in Saskatoon while Fred finished his engineering degree. Their first son arrived in 1951 and upon graduation in 1952, off they moved to Quebec, wondering if they’d ever see their families again. Two more children joined the team, and Peggy and Fred spent the next 35 years moving children, pets and furniture to communities across the country as Fred’s career with CIL flourished. While Peggy was an avid sports enthusiast, she had a particular passion for curling. Curling was the secret tonic that helped Peggy integrate into each new community across the country and she remained an avid participant into her 80’s. Peggy was devoted to her family and always put their needs ahead of her own. Walking was therapy to Peggy, especially a beautiful walk by the ocean. She loved to travel and spend time in the garden. Coming from the prairies, she was drawn to the diverse scenery of trees, water and mountains encountered on their travels. As long- standing members of the United Church, Peggy and Fred greatly appreciated the community, friendship and spiritual comfort that the church brought to their lives.
A Memorial service and reception will be held on Thursday, August 20th, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Broadview United Church. ln lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Place or the Shelbourne Community Kitchen. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Berwick House Brio Care Unit, Peggy’s friends and neighbours at Rosebank Gardens and to her regular companions, Jude, Mary, Terry, Diana and Linda.
