Mark William Pettit passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on July 22, 2026, in Tofino, British Columbia. He will be remembered by his wife, Karen, and son, Byron. He was predeceased by his parents, Maxwell and Marie Pettit.
Mark grew up in Ingersoll, Ontario and was an adventurer, travelling the world at a young age. He attended the University of Michigan and went to school in Europe where he achieved the Wine and Spirit Education Trust certification. He met his wife in Vancouver, BC and they were married in 1985. They also lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, before moving back to the west coast, settling in Victoria, BC.
Mark’s sales career in the adult beverage industry began in England with Oddbins UK and continued in Canada where he worked for the first estate wine shop in British Columbia, Casabello Wines (which became Vincor), and a wine agency. In Victoria, he held sales positions with the Victoria Chamber of Commerce, Nestle Waters and Dyson Canada. He was well spoken, an avid reader and interested in history and geography. Mark earned many sales awards and enjoyed meeting people on international trips to wine regions around the world.
Mark was a strong-willed person, full of energy and with a great sense of humour. His jokes made people laugh and he was generous, thoughtful and caring. He was a supportive and endearing father who volunteered for many sports teams to spend time with his son. His creativity and marketing skills were shared with others as he enjoyed woodworking, making wooden mobiles and spice rubs for cooking.
He retired in 2021 and spent time travelling with his wife to Hawaii, Europe, and Mexico. Mark liked sunny destinations where he could swim and relax. Tofino had a special place in his heart after visiting with his wife more than 40 years ago. Annual trips from Victoria became a tradition to walk the beaches at Pacific Rim National Park and Long Beach. It was on their last trip that he unexpectedly passed away.
Mark will be deeply missed by family and friends. There will be no service by request.
