Ian Douglas Izard

Ian D. Izard, K.C. passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family and loved ones on September 8, 2026, at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife Daphne, his children Sasha (Yana), Diana (Sean), Matthew and Mandy, as well as his two cherished grandchildren Iris and Fern.

Born on April 15, 1948, in Victoria, to Alan Patrick and Elizabeth Izard (nee Angus), Ian was one of seven children, predeceased by his brother, Andrew. He developed a lifelong passion for fishing and philanthropy, and he loved to speak about it with anyone who would listen.

Ian attended St Michael’s University school and graduated from Oak Bay High School, UVIC and UBC. He practiced law for more than 35 years, both in private practice and as Law Clerk and Clerk Assistant of the Legislative Assembly. Outside of his career, Ian will be remembered for his commitment to volunteerism and belief in the lasting benefits of a permanent endowment for the community of Victoria and its many organizations. He has held a number of community positions including Honorary Governor and former chair of the board of the Victoria Foundation, President of the Goldstream Volunteer Salmonid Enhancement Association (GVSEA), Honorary Solicitor of the Association of Former MLAs of British Columbia, and member of the Thermopylae Club of Victoria.

After retirement, Ian enjoyed annual fishing trips to Kyuquot Sound, and prawning in Saanich Inlet on his beloved boat, Decorum. Ian and Daphne could often be found at home, where he enjoyed hosting family BBQs surrounded by his treasured rhododendrons, fragrant roses and rustic vegetable garden.

As per his request, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be considered to the GVSEA and Victoria Hospice.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.
