Judy Dunsmuir passed away on August 18, 2026, one week before her 80th birthday. Born in Victoria, she grew up in Oak Bay and attended Oak Bay High School.
Judy loved music. She played piano, took voice lessons, and sang in the choir at St. Mary’s Church. She had a warmth that drew people to her, an unmistakable laugh, and a gift for making friends wherever she went. She also loved animals, especially dogs, and had many throughout her life.
Judy married Wayne Dunsmuir in 1969. In 1976, she began a career with the City of Victoria, working in Human Resources for 26 years before retiring in 2002. She was also a member of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club for 47 years.
Judy loved being on the water and spent many summers sailing the coast, exploring Desolation Sound and Vancouver Island’s Inside Passage. In 2011, she moved to Crofton, and her retirement years included winters travelling through Southern California before returning home to Osborne Bay.
Judy returned to Victoria in 2021 and made her home at Amica on the Gorge, where she formed many new friendships with fellow residents and staff.
Judy was predeceased by Wayne in 2025, after 56 years of marriage. She leaves behind her sister Nancy (Gord); children Caron (Bob), Rob (Kris); stepchildren Carla (Steve), Michael (Lisa), and Jean (Tim); and 13 grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria BC, on Saturday, October 17th, 2026, at 2:00pm, with a reception to follow.
