It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Frank Armstrong Ewer on September 24, 2026, just one month shy of his 85th birthday.
Dad lived a full life centred on family, service, and genuine connection. For 25 years, he proudly served his community as a Saanich Police Officer until his retirement in 2000. Before that he established the K-9 unit with Edmonton Police Service. Dad truly loved helping others, and he deeply treasured the lifelong camaraderie and relationships he built with his fellow officers over the years.
Dad was blessed to experience deep, enduring love through his life. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 38 years, Eileen Ewer, in 2011. He was fortunate to find love again with Dorothy Maltais, who passed away in 2025. He was also predeceased by his cherished son, Allan Ewer, in 1980.
A man who always “told it like it was,” Dad’s straightforward personality was paired with a heart that cared deeply for those around him. He had a passion for cars and watches, but nothing meant more to him than time spent with his loved ones. When his health permitted, he looked forward to regular coffee dates with friends, especially his best friend Mike Gardham, at Mattick’s Farm. Frank also shared a uniquely close bond with his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Kevin Sheahan, and held their children dear to his heart.
Dad’s warmth and impact will live on through the large, loving family he built. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Erin, Calvin (Kim), and Sean (Kim), Mellonie (Marty) and Francine (Lorne) as well as his many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
As a family, we wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to his entire healthcare team for their dedication, with special thanks to Dr. Bindra, who went above and beyond in caring for Dad for many years.
A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church (4040 Nelthorpe Street, Victoria, BC) on Friday, October 2nd, at 1:00 pm. A light reception will follow in the church hall from 2:00-4:00 pm.

It was my good fortune to have worked with Frank for many years with the Saanich Police. His humor and common sense made him a popular member with all his co-workers and he had a positive influence on many, especially newer members who would often seek his advice. He had a way with people and could deal with any situation. He touched more than we will ever know. A good guy who will be missed. My condolences to the family and may you rest in peace Frank. You earned it.
Father Frank was definitely one of a kind and truly loved by all who had the privilege to meet him. I worked with Frank at SPD from 1985 till his retirement in 2000. So many memories and so much love. Frank you will always hold a special place in our hearts RIP and God bless you and your family.
My deepest heartfelt condolences with the recent passing of your Dad, father n law, grandpa and friend. I was honored to know this amazing man in my teenage yrs through Cal. All of us would often go to the Ewers house to hang out and for Eileens famous homemade pies. We were always greeted with such warmth, love, humor and hospitality. May you find comfort in the many memories you have to hangon to. Love you all so very much. Your family is very much in my thoughts and prayers as you navigate the loss of such a wonderful person.
