With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother. Elaine was predeceased by her loving husband, Norman Gin Non Chan, in 2017. She is survived by her devoted children, Nora (Peter), Colin (Norma), and Nelson (Sophia), her cherished grandchildren, Tiffany (Chris), Christina, Nick (Emily) and Kieran, her adored greatgrandchildren Brayden, Kian and Marcus, her brother-in-law Paul, nephew Jason and his children Sydney and Zachary and her niece Gina and her son Kalen, along with extended family in Hong Kong and the US. She also leaves her loyal companion, Pheeny.
Elaine was born in Taishan, China and immigrated to Canada in 1958. Elaine and Norman were married for 59 years and spent their lives working hard to create a loving stable home for their family. They owned Chan’s Restaurant on Oak Bay Avenue for many years.
Known for her kindness and quiet strength, Elaine was the gentle anchor of her family. She created a welcoming home where everyone felt loved and cared for. She was a wonderful cook whose meals brought the family together, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
An avid gardener, she possessed a remarkable green thumb. Her compassion extended to all living things, especially her beloved dogs who brought her immense happiness.
Above all, her greatest passion and proudest achievement was her family.
A private family service will be held. The family wishes to thank everyone for their love and support.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the BC SPCA or the Alzheimer’s Society of BC and Yukon.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
