October 30, 1982 – September 16, 2026

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear son and beloved brother John. John was born in Victoria, British Columbia on October 30, 1982, and saw his last sunset on September 16, 2026. We are heartbroken and in deep pain from losing our dear John to a cold that turned into pneumonia and then sepsis.

Our deepest thanks goes to the exceptional Emergency Unit and the incredible Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their outstanding work and doing everything possible for John’s care. We are grateful for the excellent care.

Through John’s journey of 43 years, John created much laughter with his joyful spirit and humour. John appreciated and loved his family. He adored his dog Stash and deeply loved Elaine with all his heart. We love them dearly.

John had a passion for fishing, food, and travel. He was fortunate to have travelled with his love Elaine to various places and experienced the food and culture. John was looking forward to his trip in October 2026, to see Elaine’s grandma, as well, John was excited about another upcoming trip in spring 2027.

It breaks our hearts that we lost our beloved son and brother. Our hearts are heavy knowing that all the life and adventures he was supposed to have – that he won’t get to experience. Our sorrow is for John himself, for all the journeys and moments he will miss out on. It is extremely sad to know that John didn’t get to see his life, goals, and journey played out all the way through.

The sorrow we feel comes from deep love and the quiet pain of all the unfinished moments of a life cut much too short. We missed out on an unlived future, the milestones, and the ordinary days with John that we should have had together. We are grateful for the time that we did have and the parts of the journey that did happen.

John will be remembered as genuine, uplifting, and fun. He leaves behind beautiful memories of love and laughter. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered. Our love for John is infinite.

John is survived by his parents, mother-in-law, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. John is cherished by many, especially his parents and siblings. John is also remembered by many extended family members and friends who will miss him.

We remember a life lived with immense love, a constant sense of caring, and a joy for the simple things in life. John’s laughter, warmth, generous spirit, and joy will be remembered forever. As we mourn, we also celebrate the love, joy, and kindness that were the essence of John’s being.

We encourage you to honour John by creating laughter and acts of kindness, and/or doing whatever makes your heart happy. This would be the best tribute to his life.

Our family extends our heartfelt thanks for all the love, kindness, and support for our tremendous loss during this very difficult time.

We invite all who knew and loved John to join us in a Service of Love and Remembrance in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 7:00pm. A reception will follow.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 4040 Nelthorpe Street, Victoria, BC on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 11:00am. An interment will follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.
