It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barry Marcus Carlson on November 2nd, at the age of 79.
Barry is predeceased by his parents, Herb Carlson and Ivy (Field) Carlson. His memory will be forever treasured by his wife Moira. He will also be sorely missed by his son, Jesse (Louanna), and his granddaughters, Megan and Paige; his daughter, Zoë (Matt); and his younger siblings, Arlene, Brian, and Janice (Tim), nephews Alec and William along with a wide circle of extended family, and lifelong friends.
Barry was an entrepreneur. His ability to spot a market opportunity and launch a new business was legend. As a veteran executive and investor, he served for 30 years in leadership and governance roles in the software and information technology industries in B.C. In 1993 Barry was instrumental in founding the BC Technologies Association, the largest member-led technology non-profit in British Columbia.
Barry was also a musician, a traveler, a gardener, a fixer-of-things, and an amazing storyteller. He tried to retire several times, but new business opportunities beckoned. He finally got it right when his music, gardening, and travel got in the way of going to work every day. Time flies when you’re having fun!
