It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Paul J. R. Kwari. He is predeceased by father, Wilhelmus, and survived by mother Johanna, wife Lita and children Lilly (Hartono), Lianny (Welly), Vera, Maria (Cyrus) and John along with siblings Joseph, Josephine, Caroline, Martinus and numerous grandchildren. Born in Surabaya, Indonesia, Paul came to Canada along with wife Lita in 1969 to complete his B.Sc in Pharmacy at the University of British Columbia. After graduation, Paul and Lita made their home in Victoria and through hard work and determination became successful pharmacists. Paul is remembered by many as the owner of Shoppers Drug Mart in Hillside Mall and touched many with his kindness and compassion. He was known by family and friends alike for his gentle nature, selflessness, strong moral principles, and belief in the goodness of others. A devout Catholic, Paul was an active member of St. Patrick’s Parish and gave back to the community through his involvement in other organizations such as The Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC. In addition to his own children, Paul was instrumental in raising 14 other nieces and nephews on whom he imparted his love, wisdom and life lessons. During his brief retirement, Paul spent his time taking care of his beloved koi fish, golfing and spending time with his loving wife Lita. Although we are saddened to lose him tragically at such a young age, we cherish his accomplishments and the lessons he taught us. We know that Paul will continue his great deeds in his next life and we will do our best follow in his footsteps.
A mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Parish this Friday, October 2nd at 10:30 am followed by interment at Royal Oak Burial Park. A reception to celebrate Paul’s life will be held at the Delta Ocean Pointe Hotel at 2:00 pm. A prayer service and viewing will be held at McCall Bros. (at intersection of Vancouver and Johnson) this Thursday, October 1st at 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memoriam to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC.

Jan Theunisz Dear Lita and family…….only now did I learn of Paul’s passing. My condolences to you. I will always remember the kindness he and your family showed me during my time living in your lovely home on Salt Spring Island. A gentle, wise……..and loving man. I shall never forget the glow in his eye and the smile on his face as he pulled into the driveway to his ‘special’ retreat.
I think of you often, Lita, and send my best wishes to you.

We’re very shocked and saddened, when our good friend in Vancouver informed us by phone, that koh Hootje (Paul) died tragically. May koh Hootje’s soul rest in eternal peace. He will always guide and protect tjie Lita and the entire family.
You’re all in our thoughts and prayers.
We cherished the nice memories in Sept. 1996, when our good friend and us happened to visit koh Hootje in the drugstore and he accompanied us to meet tjie Lita’s parents at home. Our good friend didn’t know that Swat Bwee is koh Hootje’s distant relative.
But koh Hootje well remembered her as well as the entire family.
May the Lord bless and encourage tjie Lita and entire family.
