Mavis passed away peacefully at home with her devoted husband by her side on April 9, 2013. She was born in Nanaimo, the middle daughter of Andrew and Adela Dunsmore, on July 6, 1921. Growing up in a musical home, Mavis played the cello and sang in her father’s choirs. Following high school she attended the Provincial Normal School in Victoria, and then taught elementary school in Nanaimo, at Northfield and Middle Ward schools until 1947. Mavis married her husband of 65 years in July of 1947. They resided in Victoria where she made a loving home for her husband and two daughters. Many happy memories were made camping at Benwaldun (Nanoose Bay), both as a child and with her husband and the girls. When Alan retired, they enjoyed trailering with friends and with the Dogwood Trailer Club, especially enjoying Goldstream Park and the Island. Mavis was a life-time member of Metropolitan United Church and the U.C.W.

Mavis was predeceased by her sisters Audrey and Adele. Her love and her beautiful smile will be dearly missed by husband Alan, daughters Sharon (Stefan) Graham, and Linda (Guy) Duchaine, grandchildren Shay (Doug) Fischer, Adrianne Dunsmore, and Richard (Julia) Graham, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Nena Edmunds, and all the home care nurses who provided care and support over the last many years, especially Josie and Matthew. There will be no funeral. If desired, donations may be made to Victoria Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
