Arlie Margaret McKenzie passed away peacefully on February 3rd, 2023 at the age of 64. After a short battle with cancer, she died at home holding hands with her husband.

After learning she was ill in November, Arlie, and her partner David, decided to make the best of the time they had left. They were married in December with a beautiful wedding at the Hotel Grand Pacific, surrounded by family and friends.

Arlie was predeceased by her mother Diane, her father Lionel and her brother Robert (Sabine). She is survived by her husband David, her sister Heather (Tom), her brother Michael, her daughter Ashlie (Eric), her son Bradley and her grandson Wyatt.

Arlie was born in Vancouver, youngest of four, and grew up in Coquitlam. She later moved to Victoria and started her family there. While living in Victoria, Arlie had an impressive career as a collections officer including over 20 years with the provincial government. She will be greatly missed by her co-workers.

Arlie loved her family and friends dearly. Her generosity was legendary, which allowed her to continue her avid shopping habits (she loved a great deal!). Arlie’s home was always beautifully decorated with souvenirs from her travels and a great selection of houseplants. In the short time they knew each other, Arlie & David enjoyed many amazing trips ranging from motorcycle rides in BC and Alberta to faraway places like Mexico, India and Myanmar.

Her passing leaves a huge hole in so many lives, Arlie will be sorely missed.

A Celebration of Life for Arlie is taking place on Saturday April 15, 2023 at 2pm in the Sequoia Centre t McCall Gardens Funeral Home, 4665 Falaise Dr. Victoria, BC

    My dearest Arlie,

I am sad that we are no longer to hangout in person! We have so much events planned and we are unable to do together anymore. I missed you a lot and I am so thankful that I can call you “my dearest friend”! You are very special, as I always said “because you are Arlie!” You understood what I meant.

You encouraged and supported me at work and in personal life! I value your opinions and your guides! I guess I have to wait years before we can reunite, before that, I will continue to visit Dave, make sure he is well. Don’t you worry about your babe-cake!

I love you a lot Arlie! I will be thinking about you a lot too!

Although I did not know Arlie well she brought a lot of love and fun into David’s life and it was beautiful to watch their relationship grow through the years. My heart goes out to Arlie’s family and friends. May her loving spirit continue to move through each of you.

Arlie had a strong spirit and a sense of humor that definitely lives on through her daughter Ashley. I admire her courage through the storm. May her family and friends take comfort in the good memories.

My deepest sympathies to all of Arlie’s family and friends. She was such a mensch – a person of integrity and honour – but more than that, spirit, and joie de vivre! The world is a little bit darker without her tremendous spirit but I hope we will all keep her memory in our hearts.

I don’t think I’ve met another soul that’s lived truer to themselves. You were always unapologetically yourself. Bold, beautiful and full of spice! You will be missed so much Arlie, thank you for the laughs that brought tears and all the reminders and guidance you gave through countless work chats. Love and strength to all that loved you. ♥️

It was such a beautiful day, watching you two get married in December. Arlie will be missed so much by so many. I remember the first time I met Arlie at a our kids cub camp many years ago and then we ended up working together. I loved Arlie’s attitude and her laugh was so infectious. You made her so happy Dave, thank God she met you and had such a wonderful experience travelling over the last 8 or so years with you. Sincerest sympathies to you Dave and to all of Arlie’s family and friends.

You were a force to be reckoned with, Arlie. From the moment I met you, I was in awe of your confidence, tenacity and vest for life. It was such a pleasure to see your life blossom and hearing about all of your adventures. To Arlie’s love of a good deal, I remember her coming into the office one day, so thrilled that she had scored so many great lipsticks from Shoppers for a steal of a deal, and she was kind enough to let me pick my favorite color; it was something small but it warmed my heart and we shared a good laugh. She was so kind and will be truly missed. My sincerest condolences to all of Arlie’s family. May she rest in peace and be remembered fondly through beautiful memories.
