Mrs. Barbara Morrissey, age 91, died on December 11, 2007. Barbara died peacefully in her sleep at home.

Born in Leicester, England on January 2, 1916, she was the daughter of the late James Benjamin Lewis and Catherine Susannah Onion. Barbara was married in 1944 to Philip Dermot Morrissey. Barbara and Derry came to Canada in 1949 with their four eldest children and settled in Prince George. Two more children were born in Canada before her husband’s death in 1960 after only 16 years of marriage. Barbara remained in Prince George until 1963 at which time she moved to Vanderhoof with her three youngest children. She worked as a French Teacher in Vanderhoof from 1963 to 1976 when she retired.

Barbara moved to Victoria in 1980 and has lived with her daughter Meg for the last 27 years, the last two of which were spent with her son John and his wife Joyce. She is survived by all six of her children and spouses, 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and numerous relatives around the world.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Andrews Cathedral, 740 View Street Victoria on Friday December 14, 2007 at 12 noon.
