BOWMAN, Clair Ernest – November 18, 1922 – January 16, 2007
After a lengthy illness, Clair passed away peacefully in his sleep being sadly missed by his wife, Ellen; sister, Joan; brothers, Peter and David; sons, Brian (Helen) and Neil (Sharan); and his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Clair served on two of “The Empress” Ships on both Pacific and Atlantic during WWII and took great pride when the Canadian Merchant Marine Service was recognized by the Government. From the late 50’s he was associated with the restaurant and hotel business in Victoria and with his brother, David, The Cherry Bank Hotel was “The Place” to have “Ribs.” His long lunches in Victoria’s Chinatown with his family or business associates was always an occasion. His passion was fishing for the big “Tyee” at Hakai Pass and it would only be a couple of more pounds, next time, to have one mounted. Clair loved Hawaii, the music, and the people, especially his friends from “Hawaii Calls” at The Banyon Tree Court “Live from beautiful downtown Waikiki Beach,” now to sing harmoniously together. Aloha.
The family would like to thank Dr. Eric Shafonsky and Staff of Mt. Tolmie Extended Care for their care and kindness.
A celebration of Life will be held at McCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson and Vancouver Streets on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the Graham and Torrey McCall Family Centre. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com
