Born in Moncton, New Brunswick on November 18, 1935, Jane passed away in Victoria, British Columbia on January 12, 2024. She was the fourth child of the Gunn family and only sister of four brothers. The family moved to Montreal and weathered the war years in Greenfield Park. Two of her elder brothers served as pilots in the Canadian Air Force and after her father left, Jane and her mother raised the remainder of the family.

Inspired by her favourite television show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Jane embraced the concept of a strong independent woman who could take care of herself. She became a banker with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce at a time when only a few women eschewed the traditional role of housewife and took up briefcases instead.

Following her brother George, she arranged a transfer with CIBC and drove herself and her mother west to Victoria, BC in 1973. There she took care of mother until her mother’s passing.

A love of music and singing led her to join the church choir where she met Patrick Devlin. They eventually married and spent many happy years together playing in their musical group, the Li’l Jump Band.

Jane was predeceased by her mother Emily (Walter), brothers Aldred (Midge), Vernon (Joyce), Frederick and George (Patricia; Doreen) and niece Lynn (Bobby; Walter). On the Gunn side she leaves behind nieces, Sharron, Alison, Pamela (Anthony) and nephew Richard. On the Devlin side of the family she leaves her devoted husband Patrick, stepdaughters Julie (Dave), Elaine, Angela (David), Tracey (Rob); and step grandchildren, Devlin, Emily, Aidan, Fraser and Amy.

A Funeral Mass will be announced soon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation https://bccancerfoundation.com
