WILLOUGHBY Darlene Ann (Dar), passed away quietly on Thursday, January 2, 2003, at the Royal Jubilee Hospice at the age of 53, surrounded by friends and her beloved husband of 22 1/2 years, Douglas Charles. Her husband was with her as her spirit was freed from her earthly body. Dar is also survived by her father John Kraft, her brother John, stepmother Paulette, stepbrother Maurice, and her much loved cat, Bailey. Born in Victoria on August 15, 1949, Dar had a rare and wonderful spirit that touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with, and she made friends wherever she went. A close friend said of her that ‘those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.’ She had the brightest smile, and a mischievous twinkle in her eye that will be missed, but lovingly remembered by many, far and wide. Dar worked locally in the real estate industry at Boorman’s Real Estate Investments for eight years, where she was considered family, and was loved by all. She was always there to offer encouragement, share a joke or a laugh, and could offer a shoulder to cry on to her friends when they needed it. Dar spent many weekends working with her husband as photographers and journalists covering the CART racing series, and easily made friends with all who were captivated by her smile and genuine zest for life. She enjoyed working trackside or in the pits when the track was hot with action, and equally enjoyed the company ofthe friends she made after the day’s on-track activities were done. At home, Dar was an avid gardener, and enjoyed the pleasure of cooking. The world has lost a genuine, compassionate and giving soul that will be missed. Dar’s funeral will be held Thursday, January 9, at 3:00 p.m. at McCall’s Funeral Chapel, 1400 Vancouver Street, Victoria, B.C. The non-denominational service will be a celebration of her life, with a reception for family and friends to follow at the same location. Viewing for those who wish to say a personal good-bye will be held Tuesday, January 7, and Wednesday, January 8, between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at McCall’s. In lieu of flowers, donations to your local cancer agency or hospice has been requested by her husband. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com
