It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Darrell (Tim) Russell Brown, born July 2, 1935. He was the third generation Victoria born and proud of his roots originating in Greece and England. Hours before he passed, Pastor Gary read Psalm 23, as was read to Tim’s wife when she passed years earlier. Soon after, surrounded by loved one’s while being read John 14:2, Tim passed peacefully at the Royal Jubilee hospital on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.

Tim lived his life to the fullest and his mark will be left in Victoria, for generations to come. As a successful real estate developer and builder, his company Darwai Construction built many properties that are still standing today.  A highlight of his career was becoming a founding Director of the Western and Pacific Bank of Canada (now CWB).  Tim loved to paint and was a member of the Oak Bay Art Club. He was a true Westcoaster who loved to be on the ocean, deeply appreciated nature and was the ultimate and original reuser/recycler. Tim was curious.  He was a lifelong learner, an avid reader and possessed a wealth of knowledge on almost every subject.  He was diligent about his health and fitness and enjoyed weightlifting right to his final days.  Tim was a dedicated member of the Christian community and enjoyed the fellowship of his men’s worship group, who met weekly in his home for many years. Over the last decade, you could find him at A & W learning Mandarin and teaching English to newcomers to Victoria.

Tim made many friends along his life journey and took genuine interest in everyone he met. He had many unique life experiences and could always be counted on to tell a great story and share a good laugh. He was a positive support to anyone taking on, or faced with, a challenge and he believed no matter how big the task, nothing can stop the determined.

He leaves behind his sister, Francis; his three children, Jackie (James), Glenn (Alicia), Lori (Randy); his nine grandchildren, Tyler, Courtney, Casey, Hailey, Simon, Benjamin, Jackie, Faith, Lukas; and five great-grandchildren, Aurora, Ivale, Townes, Nina and Lucy.

Join us at the Church of the Nazarene (4277 Quadra St.) to celebrate Tim’s unique and interesting life on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre may be made in memory of Tim Brown. Tim was a strong supporter of the Centre and the healing services they provide.

My condolences to the family. I shared an office next to his for five years in the late ’70s early ’80s at 758 Queens Avenue. I hope your presence with Jesus is now more comforting than your Christian years on earth.

Well Tim you finally get to walk and talk with Jesus. You waited a long time for this. How many times we shared stories and good times. I really enjoyed having you as a friend, and I wouldn’t have missed it for anything. It’s hard to get good friends and I’m going to miss you. Gary Yendall

    Jackie, Glenn and Lori,

I am so sorry to learn of Tim’s passing. Please accept my condolences. Tim was always so gracious to my family. My brother David Brown worked for Tim in the late 70s/early 80s at Darwai Construction and I worked for Tim and Herb at Dalziel Box Company in the early 80s with Lorraine, Harold and Glenn. I have some very fond memories of that time period. Great picture of Tim, he always had a twinkle in his eye. My thoughts are with you all.
