Fallen asleep in the Lord Jesus Christ in the early morning of January 24, 2011 at Victoria, British Columbia aged 85. Leaves his dearly loved wife of 50 years, Anna (nee Wyllie) and sons, Ian and Paul of Victoria and Gavin (Lydia) of Calgary, Alberta. Loving grandfather to Melissa, James, Andrew and Emily and uncle to Connie, Crystal, Andrew, Maureen and Douglas. Predeceased by sister, Margaret.

Born to Reginald and Gladys at Harrow, England on November 8, 1925. As a young man, he was profoundly converted to the Lord Jesus Christ. This guided and comforted him throughout his life. During WWII, he worked as a non-combatant among German prisoners held in Britain and travelled often to Germany in postwar years. In 1959, he emigrated to Canada and upon marrying in 1960 settled in Kingston, Ontario. where he worked at CIL and Queen’s University. After relocating to Victoria in 1980, he taught at UVic and became involved in retail businesses.

Above all, he was selflessly committed to maintaining and furthering the Christian testimony. He was earnest in Christian fellowship, evangelical works, including his publication of the “Faithful Words” tracts and Bible study to which he devoted much time and effort. Of many admirable qualities, he was happy, humble, gentle, patient and content. His wise counsel and helpful nature will be sorely missed.

Family acknowledges the compassionate care of Dr. Andrew Swan, his physician and especially that of the nurses and staff of the Royal Jubilee Hospital. Funeral Service will be held in SEQUOIA GARDENS MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 4665 Falaise Drive on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park. Some time has gone by since David’s earthly presence left but I’m sure he is still with you in spirit. My own experience assures me of that fact. It is now 24 years since.my husband died and.also David’s and my Aunt Rhoda Dexter(nee Maxon).,but the memory of their love is still a source of support and inspiration. I have been looking at some “snaps” of family recently, and should you wish,I will send you any that include David and/or his parents. My thoughts and cousinly greetings to you all, A Elizabeth Gervat nee Woodcock (daughter of Leonard and Eva nee Maxon sister of Gladys Hilda)

Dear Anna, Ian, Paul and Gavin, How sorry we were to hear about David. Our paths have crossed for many years with the antiques business as common ground. David was well respected as a gentle, kind and scrupulous man, always optimistic and good natured, even through difficult economic times. How often I would see him diligently walking to work ( often in trench coat and galoshes!) maintaining his routine with determination. His thoughtful and positive attitude was a great example to us all. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time. Sincerely, Heather and Forrest.
