BLANEY Diane G. (Lusse) – Diane passed away peacefully in the company of family on July 20, 2010. The onset of diabetes several years ago and other related ailments were too much to overcome. Diane was born in Victoria on July 1, 1930. Every Canada Day was a very special day for the family, and this year was memorable as Diane was able to celebrate her 80th birthday with everyone. Diane’s family was her top priority for most of her life, and after her children began school, she enjoyed working as a cosmetician in the downtown Eaton’s store in the 1960’s, and later spent over twenty years working at Gonzales Pharmacy. In her leisure time, Diane was a skilled artist, a talent she passed along to her children. She enjoyed bowling and badminton in her early days, and later her favourite pastimes included camping, gardening, travelling, and games of chance. However, there was nothing in Diane’s life that could ever shake her pride and appreciation for her family. Her unconditional love and support will remain heartfelt forever. Diane was predeceased by her son Kim in 1976, her husband of 42 years Don, in 1992, and her close companion Jack Thomas in 2004. Diane is survived by children Mark, Chris (Robin), Debi, and Kevin, and her grandchildren Sean, Taryn, and Traven, as well as her sister Deenie, brother Jim (Sharon), brother-in-law Ernie (Phyl), and their families. Diane’s family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care she received from the staff of Beacon Community Services and VIHA. Without their fantastic support, Diane would not have been able to spend the last fours years at home, a place she truly loved. The family would also like to thank the emergency care staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital, and her caregivers at RJH 4West. Diane’s final days were made infinitely better by their special care. Diane’s wishes for quiet remembrance will be honoured. No service by request. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Blaney family: We still can’t comprehend that Diane has gone. It was so sudden at the end. Our only regret is that we didn’t get to tell her how much we cared. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

I’m so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. My condolences to you all. I was just looking at some old school pictures from 1937 to 1941 from Bank St. School where your Mom and my late husband, Ken, were in the same grades together. Your Mom and Dad were Godparents to my daughter, Terry (now 48 years old)! I cherish the memories from years gone by with your Mom and Dad.
My heart goes out to you all. Take care.
