December 1, 1926 – October 16, 2013

Born and raised in Victoria, BC, and perhaps because his family moved so frequently, Don’s travel bug bit early. Too young to join up, he spent his late teen years working in Victoria Shipyards. After WWII, he joined McGavin’s Bakery for 20 years until it closed. On the weekends, he and his best friends Gil and George hunted and fished throughout BC – until 1952, when he married the girl next door and they had two daughters. He worked for 23 years for the City of Victoria until retiring in 1987. Vacations each year at Qualicum Beach and Parksville expanded when they bought their beloved RV in 1977. For the next 30 years, there were yearly runs to Reno, Vegas, all over Canada and the western US, interspersed with cruises and trips with friends and family around North and South America, UK and Hawaii. He loved it all.

Don was predeceased by parents Daniel and Alice, sisters Ada Mercier and Vera Eden and younger daughter Judy. Missing him are his wife of 61 years Fran, daughter Colleen, brother Dan, many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

His family thanks the doctors, nurses and volunteers of the Palliative Care Unit at Victoria Hospice for their kindness and care during his final weeks.

A Celebration of Don’s life takes place on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Centennial United Church, 620 Gorge Rd, Victoria, BC. ln lieu of flowers, donations to Victoria Hospice can be made in his memory.
