Donald Seaton Wilkinson
February 25, 1929 – September 4, 2010
Donald Wilkinson died peacefully at the age of 81.
Born in Windsor ON, he moved to England with his family in 1937, where he lived until after the war was over. Don did his National Service with the Royal Air Force as a medic, a position he thoroughly enjoyed, and one of which he was very proud.
Donald returned to Canada in 1951. After a variety of careers, including machinist, stationary engineer and architectural draftsman, he started working as a millwright in 1965, eventually retiring from the Woodfibre pulp mill in Squamish.
Don was very active in the Victoria sports scene as a member of the James Bay Athletic Association, the Victoria Cricket Club and the Oak Bay Wanderers, but in 1955 he was victim to a severe beating, resulting in a head injury which would impact the remainder of his life. His love for sports, however, would remain with him always.
Predeceased by his beautiful daughter, Heather Anne Santilli, his sister, Rita (in England) and his brother Jack, Donald is survived by his sisters, Patricia Illingworth and Isabelle Peck and his brother, Neil.
The family wish to extend heartfelt thanks to Don’s friend and caregiver, Thelma Legge, to the staff of Hillside Terrace and to Mount St. Mary’s Hospital for their exceptional care.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 22, at 2 pm at Christ Church Cathedral, 930 Burdett Ave, Victoria. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hillside Terrace or Mount St Mary’s Hospital.
