In Loving Memory of Doreen Cooper (née McQuillan)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doreen Cooper (née McQuillan) on December 24th, 2024, at the age of 92. Born in Bevan, BC, in 1932, Doreen was the beloved daughter of Robert and Dorothy McQuillan and a cherished sister in a large, close-knit family.
Doreen spent her early years in Courtenay, where she developed a love for family and the outdoors, enjoying summers at the beach cottage at Kye Bay. A natural athlete, she was an avid basketball player during her high school years.
While attending nursing school, Doreen met the love of her life, Charles (Ted) Cooper. The couple married and embarked on a journey together, driven by Ted’s distinguished career in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Their life was filled with adventure, as they made homes in diverse locales across Canada and abroad, including Prince Edward Island, Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver Island, Belgium, and Ireland.
After Ted’s passing in 1986, Doreen settled in Victoria, BC, where she built a vibrant and fulfilling life. A keen golfer, skilled bridge player, and passionate gardener, she thrived in the company of friends and the beauty of her surroundings.
Doreen’s legacy lives on in her children Janis, Denise (Joe), and Robert (Danielle), and her cherished grandchildren: Hannah, Matthew, Kayla, and Carter. Her resilience, and love will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Doreen’s life will be held in Victoria, BC, at a later date.
She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the love and joy she brought into the lives of many. Rest in peace Doreen.
