February 25, 1918 – March 18, 2013

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Doris was the only child of Dudley and Isabella Bell. As a young girl she moved to Victoria with her parents where she attended South Park School and later became an active member of the Anglican Young Peoples Association. She married Robert (Bob) Cumberbirch in 1941 and together they raised four sons. In addition to raising the boys, Doris worked with Bob to develop their business “Cumberbirch Insurance Agency” which they established in 1962. Following the sale of the business to their son Paul in 1980, Doris and Bob travelled extensively every year until 1991. Since Bob’s death in 1999 Doris lived an independent life managing her own home in Central Saanich where she prepared and hosted the family Christmas dinner every year until 2012. Doris is survived by her four sons, Neill (Susan), Peter (Johanna), Paul and Dean; her granddaughters, Sarah (Derek) and Jessica (Eric) and her great grandsons, Rowan and Declan.

A service of remembrance will be held at McCall’s Downtown, Johnson and Vancouver Streets on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 2:30pm with a reception to follow in McCall’s Family Centre. No flowers by request, but any donations in Doris’ name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Unfortunately, I missed your mum’s service, as I had an appointment for an vaxcination. For missing I have received the punishment of a very sore arm. Your mum will always be remembered as the wee lady who could process insurance papers, fast, correctly and pleasantly. My condolences to you all………Rich Hunt

    Neill, Peter, Paul, Dean
On behalf of my mother (Noelle), my brother Bruce and myself I’d like to express our sympathy on your mother’s passing. Doris was my mother’s oldest friend and she frequently reminisces about their time together at South Park Elementary.
I spoke to your mother a few months ago when she called me to ask how her old friend was doing. We had a delightful talk and I passed on the conversation to my mom; she was pleased to be remembered. It was an honor to be conduit between our mothers. It will be difficult for me to have to pass on this last message.
    You have our utmost condolences.
