Catherine, you are in my thoughts and have been continuously since Suzanne discovered the announcement of the service at McColls.

The service was a beautiful tribute to Doug and I was both very glad and very sad to have been there. Your beautiful face as you described your days with your son touched me deeply. Let me know if I can offer anything further than my love and encompassment in the days ahead. Your friend, Jim Craven

    Dear Joanne and family,

I was so sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. I have good memories of him when we worked together in the Ministry of Energy and Mines. He was skilled and helpful and a very nice person to have around. I’m sure he’ll be so missed and I pray that you’ll be comforted with memories.

    Sincerely,

    Lorna Rennie

I had the pleasure of working with Doug when he was at the Legislature. This was early in my career and he was a great teacher. Doug was also very kind, creative and generally just a pleasure to be around. It is an honor to have known Doug and I thank the powers that be for having made him a part of my life. Rest in peace big guy.

It is with a very heavy heart that I write this. I had the pleasure of working with Doug (I called him “Douggie”) for a number of years. I knew him on a personal and professional basis. As we all know, he was a very smart, dynamic and unique individual. One thing I found really neat, and will always remember about him, was how he would spark a new interest and dive into it with an intensity that was unimaginable. Setting up a wood shop in his apartment to build his guitar, and his journey in to the world of photography are the only two of these that come to mind.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences. This is an unimaginable loss, time will help to heal, and he will always hold a place in our hearts.

I would like nothing more to be able to attend today’s service, but unfortunately I am out of town, and am unable to attend. I will be there in spirit.

To all of Doug’s Family and Friends,

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to everyone who has been touched by this sudden and tragic loss. Doug was a very good friend and was a special person with a great heart and a great sense of humour.

My thoughts go out especially to Doug’s family at this time and I hope that some peace will come from seeing just how many lives Doug has touched and how many people loved him, respected and admired him, and will miss him dearly.

Unfortunately a previous work commitment has taken me out of town this week and I won’t be able to attend today’s service. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends who are gathering today to celebrate Doug’s life and mourn his passing.

Doug – you were a good friend and a great guy! You will be greatly missed!

    To the Whittier family,

I was so deeply saddened to hear of Doug´s death, and my heart goes out to you all, as well as to Doug´s partner and family, in coping with his sudden passing.

I am presently out of the country so will be unable to attend Doug´s funeral, but I would like to offer two thoughts: first, that I will never forget the impact Doug had in my life (his wit, intelligence, artistic skills, and special intensity); also, that I hope that you are able to find some comfort on Thursday in gathering with all the people who came into contact with Doug and who will reflect back to you all the unique qualities they so admired in him.

He is gone too soon. He will be sorely, sorely missed.

    My sincerest condolences.

    Barbara Black
