Dr. R T C (Chris) Worsley D.S.C., M.A., L.R.C.P., M.R.C.S. died peacefully in the Hospice Victoria on November 5th, 2002. He was the eldest son of Rev Canon and Mrs R C Worsley. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Laurence. He is survived by his wife Sheila. Dr Worsley was born in Lancashire, United Kingdom on December 21st, 1919. He was educated at Bolton and Warwick schools prior to going up to St Edmund Hall, Oxford University where he obtained a bachelor and master’s degree in history. His studies were interrupted by the Second World War. He joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve where he saw much active service in the Mediterranean and was an active participant in the raid on St Nazaire in 1942, where he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. After the war he returned to Oxford, and thence to Bristol University where he earned a conjoint degree in medicine. In 1964 he emigrated to Canada where he established himself as a family physician/surgeon in Bashaw, Alberta. He returned to Britain to marry Sheila. Chris became an integral part of the medical and social community of Bashaw until his retirement in 1984 when he moved to Victoria, British Columbia. His retirement was soon marred by an unfortunate stroke which pervasively affected his health. In spite of this, Chris maintained a very active social and academic life, sustaining a close relationship with his colleagues from the Services. Chris was renowned for his immense depth and range of general knowledge; to the end he was able to quote poetry and prose with fluency. He bore with great fortitude his inexorable physical decline and pain. Chris died peacefully, surrounded by the truly loving staff of the Hospice Victoria and his closest and dearest life companion, Sheila, by his side. A funeral service will be held at St Luke’s Anglican Church at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday November 13th. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hospice Victoria.
