After all this time I have found somewhere to honour someone who I loved as an aunt and who has been in my family since the day I was born. My mum and Auntie Eleanor were best friends for life. Although I did not meet her until I was eight, I knew her well from stories and from the warmth that came before her through my mother’s fondness of her. Eleanor was full of fun, interest, love, music, affection. She took me in at a time in my life when I was very low and she and Margaret gave me a home for three months in BC. I will always love her. It is strange to be writing this so long after her moving on. Perhaps she is around this Saturday evening near the end of 2012. If so, know you are loved Eleanor Duff. Mary

Christine my wife & I met Margaret & Eleanor initially when they came out to New Zealand to visit Dad (Gordon Duff) in 1981 (?) and again on a subsequent trip later. They were both happy fun people to be around & they invited us to visit them in Victoria. We ended up there in 1984 & stayed with them both for a great month as had a wonderful time in and around Victoria, they were both marvelous hosts & we had fun filled month experiencing the sort of life they lived & the wonderful things they did. Eleanor will be greatly missed by us & our children who they met when they were here in the 80’s as she was a very compassionate person & definitely left the world a greater place than she found it.

    Dear Louise and John.
Mike and I were so sorry to read of Eleanor’s passing. I had a nice chat with her on your beautiful deck in the summer and she was so with it at that time. I know you’ll have great family memories especially of your Christmas Celebrations. She was a charming, gracious lady.
I met her and Margaret years ago in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Choir. Later I heard her sing the Contralto solo part in “Handel’s Messiah” at The McPherson and she was outstanding! She’ll be greatly missed.

My husband and I knew both Eleanor and Margaret through the Victoria Operatic Society. I remember Eleanor playing the Mother Abbess in Sound of Music. Her rendition of Climb Every Mountain left me with chills. She was truly amazing.
