In Loving Memory ~

Emerence (Emmy) Secord, (nee Woltz), was born on January 15, 1925, in Windsor Ontario, and passed away on January 16th, 2025, at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital’s Extended Care Unit.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna, and son, Scott; and by nieces and nephews in Ontario and Nevada.

Emmy met her future husband, Ross, at the Walkerville (Windsor) airport in 1945 where she assisted in the war effort while Ross was a flying instructor at the Air Cadet School. They married in 1946 and shared many happy memories and amazing travel adventures throughout their 68 years of marriage.

In her retirement years, she travelled extensively throughout Europe; partaking in the local cultures. Emmy was an Art History major at Elder College in both Windsor and Port Charlotte, Florida. Her major was in the surrealist works of Salvador Dali, although her favourite artist was Rembrandt van Rijn; and she even visited the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam to follow the Dutch masters.

In 1981, Emmy and Ross retired and relocated to Sidney. Once there, she quickly adopted Sidney as her new “hometown”, and she devoted her time volunteering and doing charitable work through the St. Elizabeth Parish. Emmy also worked several part time jobs in Sidney and in the Peninsula.

Emmy was predeceased by sister Margaret, and brothers Emerson, Ted, and Jim Woltz. She was one of those fortunate individuals to have known love throughout her life and to embrace a faithful way of living that gave her amazing strength in the face of adversity.

The Secord family wishes to thank the staff at both the Gorge Road Hospital and the Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their unwavering care and kindness to our beloved mother. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Emmy’s name to a local branch of the Salvation Army of Canada, or online.

A celebration of Emmy’s life will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 10030 Third Street, Sidney, on Friday, January 24th, 2025, at 1:00 pm.
