
Ethel Mary (nee Pritchard) born March 14, 1922, in Battleford, Saskatchewan, passed peacefully on December 12, 2017, in Victoria, BC with her daughter Saundra at her side.
Predeceased by her husband Frank Stanley Ballendine, son Clarence Frank Joseph Ballendine, grandson Clifford Szostak, brothers Rod Pritchard, Douglas Pritchard, and sisters Laura Pearce, Muriel Henderson, and Dori Thompson.
Ethel is survived by her daughters Sharon Szostak (Gord), Marilyn Skinner (James), Saundra Taylor (Steve), and the daughter of her heart Geraldine Arundell (Rod).
Her six grandchildren: Sherri-Lee Closson (Don), Darrell Szostak, Calvin Durrell, Anita Barker (Don Kent), Neil Durrell (Cindy), and Darrel Hoffman (Natalie Boudreau).
Seven great-grandchildren: Elysia Nicholls (Ron Glover), Barry James House (Jen Zapp), Jamie Durrell, Marlee Closson (Ben Josephson), Dakotah Boudreau, Haley Speers, and Rylan Hoffman and two great-great-grandchildren Ethan Nicholls and Sawyer Glover.
Ethel is also survived by her three sisters Rita Coombs, Kay Steadman, and Theresa Harris, and numerous family members and friends.
She will be remembered for her love of gambling—whether at the casino or at home with her family and grandchildren. Her sense of humor, and style. Her loving and outgoing personality, she was always there for people in need.

Many thanks to the Staff of Baptist Housing who helped to care for Ethel the last 15 years of her life, and especially to the Heights 4th Floor East staff for all their love and care for Ethel and our family that final week.
Mass will be held on Friday, Dec ember 29, 2017 at 1:30 pm at St Andrews Cathedral, 740 View St. Interment to follow at Hatley Memorial Gardens, 2050 Sooke Rd. A Celebration of her Life to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 91 at 761 Station Ave from 3:30 – 6:30 pm in the hall. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC. 202, 306 Burnside Rd W, Victoria, V8Z 1M1
