It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Eugenia Rossa: a mother, baba, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a vibrant woman with a penchant for breaking into song. She had an inquisitive nature and enjoyed car rides with her family and sightseeing. She even ventured to Hawaii in her 80’s to feel the Pacific Ocean between her toes. Eugenia was born in Brody, Ukraine – a small farming community. While staying in an internment camp in Salzburg, Austria, Eugenia met her to be husband John Rossa. They married in 1948, then immigrated to Canada in 1949.
They had two sons, Walter and Alexander (Alec). Eugenia is survived by her sons Walter and Alec, and her older brother Joseph. Eugenia cherished family, religion, and like any proud Ukrainian – good food.
The Rossa family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Mount Saint Mary’s for making Eugenia’s stay comfortable and a thank you to Dr. Brian Winsby for coming out of retirement to assist with Eugenia’s medical care.
On Sunday, April 17 at 4 p.m., there will be a prayer service at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Victoria (1112 Caledonia Avenue). The funeral will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church (550 West 14th Ave) in Vancouver at 10:30 a.m. Those wishing to pay their respects are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Victoria.
