ROGERS, Eva Frances 1910 2010 A Life of Service, Well Lived Born September 8, 1910 in Royal Tunbridge Wells, England, the only child of John and Mabel Boucher, Eva emigrated with her parents to Canada in 1912, growing up in Winnipeg and spending summers at Deer Park Ranch, Alexis Creek, BC. At the age of 16, Eva began what became a lifetime tradition of playing the organ at her local Anglican church, where she met her future husband, a young trainee priest. In 1934, she and the Rev. Jack Rogers were married and together began a ministry lasting 52 years until Jack’s death in 1986. First ministering in rural Manitoba (Carmen and Snowflake) during the drought years, they later moved to Winnipeg, then Trail, and eventually to Victoria (St. Michael and All Angels, St. Matthias, and Brentwood Bay Chapel). Eva was a life member of the Anglican Women’s Auxiliary and last played for a church service on her 95th birthday. Her love of gardening was also an early interest that sustained her throughout her life. Eva’s kindness, compassion and thoughtfulness extended beyond her church work to a myriad of friends and family, especially grandchildren Grant, John and Sarah in their early years. She lived by the maxim that she was here to help those in need, and on July 5th quietly left this world, her life of service to others complete. Eva is survived by her children and their spouses, Graham (Elsie McMurphy) and Joan (Glen Adam), five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren as well as family across Canada and in New Zealand, England and Australia. A service will be held at St. Michael and All Angels, 4733 West Saanich Road, on Tuesday, July 13, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation Extended Care Unit, 2166 Mt. Newton X Road, Saanichton, V8M 2B2, or to a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone, all the staff and volunteers, on ECU #1 at Saan Pen”. Your devotion and care were exceptional.
